Iranian Flag Specification

Iran Flag Project defines a standardised specification for the Iranian Lion and Sun flag. It establishes the flag as a precise, structured system with fixed proportions, defined colour values, and a standardised emblem design.

The standard is based on a widely used modern vector design that has become the most commonly circulated version of the flag among Iranian communities. The specification formalises this design into a consistent framework.

It ensures consistent reproduction across digital and physical formats by eliminating inconsistency in flag proportions, design, and colour.

Flag layout

The flag of Iran is defined as an equal-height green–white–red horizontal tricolour with an aspect ratio of 4:7. The flag measures 120 × 210 units. A gold Lion and Sun emblem measuring 39 × 54 units is centred horizontally on the white band and aligned with the top edge of the red band.

Emblem design

The Lion and Sun emblem consists of a gold male lion positioned before a rising sun. The lion stands upon a thin horizontal base and holds a shamshir in its forepaw. The sun is depicted as a plain disc with straight rays. No crown, wreath, or additional ornaments form part of the standard emblem. The thickness of the outline is 0.35 units, and the base is 46 units wide.

Colour specification

White is pure white and black is pure black. The colours of the flag are defined as follows:

  • Green: Pantone 7739 C (hex #319B42)
  • Gold: Pantone 1235 C (hex #FFBB26)
  • Red: Pantone 485 C (hex #DA291C)

The design has already seen adoption by many Iranians and is already used by several outlets to represent the country.
